3 out of 5 stars Back to Basics   October 6, 2008

I watched this dvd over the weekend, and was a little dissapointed.
I have to agree with some of the points by another review by Stilts.

I just wish Avril drops this whole pink bubblegum look, and go back to what made her famous in the first place. I just cannot help but wonder who she really wants to be. The punk/rock chick we all fell in love with back with her first album, or a pink teen pop princess. If you are the latter, you would love this dvd.

Don't get me wrong, she still rocks! and I still like her, I am just not one for this whole pink pop thing. For one thing - she lost her male audience. Clearly seen in this dvd.
Right after I watched this, I watched the "My world" dvd, and was amazed at how much better it was for me.

I hope to see the rock chick Avril once was, in the future again. And instead of skipping around the stage and powdering her nose, give us performances like the Metallica song "fuel" that she sang a few years back. And more ballads..... thank goodness she played some of her best ballads on this dvd, otherwise I would have never watched it again.

Here is a great idea for her manager....
"Get Avril to do a unplugged show on dvd" That will be awesome!! And I will pay any amount of money to see that!

Here's to hoping!!

I purchased this DVD to go with the album "The Best Damn Thing" and her previous DVD "My World" and I do not regret buying it but I would have liked for there to have been some bonus features on the DVD which unfortunately there weren't but that is only a minor complaint and I will give the DVD five stars because I enjoyed the concert thoroughly.

3 out of 5 stars A Good Damn Tour ( not the best)   August 6, 2008

If you like bubblegum you'll love this! If you want something a bit more substantial - keep looking. If her show at the O2 in London is in any way representative of this DVD you'll feel as a fan that Avril needs to get the quality of backing and sound that she deserves and focus back on the kind of writing and performance that gave her a solid fan base to begin with rather than the more recent cheerleader pop. Avril's obvious talent and the quality of some of her earlier tracks included here make this worth a view, but she could do better.

We saw Avril in Manchester too. What are the other reviewers reviewing? Beats me. The DVD may be fantastic but as nobody knows yet they must be about the show itself. Let it be said that she IS good live (when she's on stage), but at the end of the day who cares if she can play drums? Do we really want video sequences with no band? Constant walk offs to powder her face. Duplicating songs. All this and weighing in at a measly 75 minutes left us feeling somewhat cheated. We would have let her off for an hour and a half at least. Someone, somewhere, is giving bad advice to this girl. Pandering to the audience she's got at the moment will probably ultimately end in disaster and a gamble needs to be taken, now. She LOOKS like she wants to do a proper show, so for heavens sake lets have one, not the let down that was served up.
